FYI: Barb learned to dive in Anchorage, Alaska, acquiring her PADI Master Instructor rating and has enjoyed cold water diving for over 30 years. She is based in British Columbia, Canada and works as a freelance outdoor adventure writer/photographer specializing in dive travel around the world. Her work has appeared since 1990 in various International print magazines, Internet publications, in books and is widely used to promote diving in British Columbia. Critters Down Under
This program was originally created around 1985 by Barb Roy when the dive business was still in Alaska, as a way to increase public awareness in schools. Over the years the program has developed into two one-hour sessions: Classroom Presentation and Beach Exploring. During the classroom session ADU’s store associate, Tallen Patrick shows an image presentation of our local underwater world and displays dive gear used. The beach session is conducted at a beach where a diver gently collects several critters to show the kids in a safe container while Tallen explains what they are. Cost for this program is $20 per session for a classroom. ....more

Dive to Gain Experience
Once a diver is finished with their Openwater Scuba Course quite often they will take one or two warm water holidays, but go no further.
We think the problem might be that they don’t realize how good local diving is in the
northwest or they lack a buddy to go diving with. Beneath the waters of both Washington
and coastal British Columbia a diver has the ... more
Campbell River - October 10-12 - $525
Fall is a great time to visit the Campbell River area, located on the eastern side of Vancouver Island because visibility is so good. Although most of the diving
is done in Discovery Pass, Earl with Abyssal Charters
will travel to Mittlenatch Island and to sites on the far
side of Quadra Island, weather permitting. Divers can
expect to see assorted invertebrates on the wall at
Copper Cliffs and covering the wreck at May Island.
The 366’ wreck of the Columbia was scuttled in 1996
with a compliment of six large guns on the back deck.
We have seen large octopus near the wreck and rockfish

Cleaning Help Needed for Annapolis Ship
As many of you know, work is progressing well aboard the Annapolis, but there is still much to be done to prepare the ship for sinking in Howe Sound. Volunteers have been wonderful in helping prepare the ship by volunteering their time in cleaning, taking things apart and other miscellaneous work on the ship. No diving is involved and you don’t have to be a diver to help out! Groups generally leave from Horseshoe Bay early am, ranging from 8-12 people per weekend day. Here are some dates that are open for volunteer help; May 30 & 31, June 6, 7, 21, 27, 28. All weekends in July and August are also open for groups or individual help.
Please let Deirdre know as soon as you can if any of these dates work for any of you individually or as a group through a dive shop or dive club or a bunch of friends wanting to help out. Thanks for all of your help so far!
