With this Open water Scuba Course you are at the beginning of your journey toward a lifetime of diving enjoyment and adventure. Through a series of pool and classroom sessions, plus four exciting Scuba dives at two of the more popular local dive sites, you will gain the skill through knowledge, and the confidence to safely explore our ocean realm.

The average length of our scuba course is two weeks. It consists of one classroom session (four hours), three pool sessions (two hours each), and four ocean dives (over two days). Since we have our students view the video portion of the class at home, our instructors can cover more and other informative topics in the allotted time.  Combined with learning in a drysuit (no extra charge) you will quickly realize that there is no better value around! Water currents and advanced coldwater techniques are also a regular part of our Open Water curriculum even though they are not required. With over 12 years of teaching scuba in Alaska and 13 years in Washington, we will strive to offer you all aspects of our coldwater experience to provide you with quality scuba instruction.

- $275 includes the Open Water Manual, Recreational Dive Planner, Log Book, the Certification fee with PADI, use of high quality regulators, tanks, weight belts, drysuits (including hood), and BCD buoyancy vests for all pool and ocean instruction. This will allow you to try a variety of equipment styles and brands throughout your course. Class, confined water and ocean instruction are also included. Your final two ocean dives will be conducted at local dive sites that are popular for the animal life and things to explore! Other benefits include: a P.A.D.I. student Accident Policy to cover you throughout the course, 6-month subscription to Dive Training Magazine, and a coupon book good toward all sorts of savings on both equipment and upcoming classes. There is also a pay as you go option for those on a budget!

Each student will need to provide a mask & snorkel, adjustable fins, and coldwater gloves, and boots before the first pool session. We consider this to be the minimum personal equipment that a diver should have to best enjoy this wonderful recreation. Store personnel are always available to counsel students on the selection of these supplies. If you would like to invest in your own Scuba equipment for use during the course, any of the ADU staff will be happy to assist. Special discount pricing applies to packages for the first 60 days after your class. Students will also need to provide two passport size photos for your certification card showing that you have completed the course and can rent or buy scuba gear worldwide!

For those of you who have to work around a tight work or school schedule, or just want to set your own pace, the custom course is what you need. A home study video is provided along with an openwater manual to read and watch at your leisure. The instructor will work with you in planning a class and confined water format to suit your schedule. The same supplies are needed. $495

- A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your place in a class. With this we will give you an openwater manual to start reading. The balance is due on the first night of class. With two weeks notice your deposit may be transferred to the next course for up to six consecutive courses.
CUSTOM GROUP CLASS - With four or more people wanting to take a scuba class (work, club or friends), we will put together a special custom schedule to fit your group needs. Same supplied are needed. The price is $295.00 each based on doing four ocean dives from the shore.

We have course schedules and PADI brochures to help you plan ahead. Just let us know if you have any questions or need to make an appointment with a course counselor to assist you in any way. Thank You for taking the time to read our Openwater informational sheet and we hope to see you underwater soon!
