SSB-2001 Sonic Transceiver
The Aquacom SSB-2001 is a 1 channel, VOX or push-to-talk transceiver. It can be configured
to operate with virtually any full face mask. SSB-2001
has a squelch control that can be set to help
suppress marine and/or man made back ground noise. It operates on (8) AA alkaline
batteries and transmits with 2 full watts of power. SSB-2001 can easily be converted to a
portable surface station by the addition of a CDK Surface Accessory kit. SSB-2001 has been
field proven by many Search & Rescue teams and Commercial Divers around the world.

SONIWAVE DIVER-TO-DIVER UNIT
The Soniwave diver communicator is easy to install. A
diver will simply replace the mouthpiece on his or her second stage regulator with an
appropriately sized Soniwave acoustic mouthpiece. The push-to-talk (PTT) button and
electronics housing snap to the air hose. A protective spiral wrap covers the cable and
the air hose. Insert a 9Volt alkaline battery and the system is ready to use.
Soniwave Diver Communicators turn on automatically when a diver enters the water and turns
off about 30 seconds after leaving the water. Digital squelch technology maintains the
system in silence until a transmission is received, thus making the communicator
unobtrusive, preserving the normal sounds of the diving experience. To speak to another
diver or topside, the diver presses the large yellow push to talk (PTT) button which snaps
to the hose near the second stage regulator. The divers speech is picked up by a
microphone located inside the mouthpiece.
The divers voice is transmitted through the water using an ultrasonic carrier. The
range is about 100 meters under calm water conditions. Thermoclines will tend to greatly
reduce the range because it causes the ultrasonic carrier to be reflected, rather than
transmitted. This also holds true for large objects which can reflect the ultrasonic
carrier if located in the line-of-sight between divers.
The Soniwave mouthpiece was designed with input from the Indiana University School of
Dentistry. The extended bite flanges allow the diver to evenly support the mouthpiece with
the back teeth, rather than gritting with just the front teeth. These bite flanges have
been tapered to allow the mouth to retain its natural position during use, thus reducing
jaw fatigue. The design allows free tongue and jaw movement so the diver can speak more
freely while retaining the mouthpiece in its natural position. There are a number of
techniques that you can master with practice to make speaking easier and more easily
understood. Generally, greater than 85% intelligibility can be achieved after 3 dives.

SONIWAVE SURFACE UNIT
SONIWAVE SURFACE is an excellent tool for communicating between topside and
divers below. New developments in signal processing provide crystal clear transmission to
divers for instruction, search and recovery or recreation. With this tool, boats can be in
constant communication with divers and topside personnel can participate in organized
activities, follow dive groups, maneuver for anchor locations and recall divers. 8 D cell
batteries provide more than 25 hours operation or the unit can be powered by an auxiliary
power source through a panel mounted jack. 2 way communication can be recorded by
attaching a recorder to an external adapter. Volume and squelch adjustments are all that
are necessary to operate unit. Transmission to divers is accomplished by using a CB type
microphone. The stainless steel panel protects the electronics unit and the system is
housed in a robust plastic case which has ample storage room for the microphone,
underwater transducer, cables and other gear.
